Shohei Ohtani celebrates as Blake Snell joins the Dodgers.
The reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers have bolstered their already formidable rotation by signing Blake Snell. The two-time Cy Young Award winner joins the team on a multi-year deal after spending a single season with the San Francisco Giants.
Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani shared his excitement about Snell’s arrival. On Tuesday, the two-way superstar reposted a Dodgers social media post featuring Snell, warmly welcoming him to the team.
Ohtani, who played exclusively as a batter during the 2024 season, is set to return to pitching next year. The Japanese sensation is coming off one of the best campaigns of his career, finishing with a .310 batting average, 54 home runs, 130 RBIs, and an impressive 1.036 OPS.
As for Blake Snell, the Dodgers officially announced on Saturday that the left-hander signed a five-year, $182 million contract. Snell delivered a strong performance in 2024, tallying five wins, three losses, a 3.12 ERA, 145 strikeouts, and a 1.05 WHIP.
Snell will join a stellar starting rotation that already features Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, and Shohei Ohtani. Additionally, the Dodgers are expected to pursue another starting pitcher, with Japanese standout Roki Sasaki reportedly among their top targets.
