Nirvana and Alice in Chains Announce Final World Tour: A Tribute to Kurt Cobain
In a moment that has sent shockwaves through the rock and grunge community, Nirvana and Alice in Chains have announced a final world tour together, a powerful tribute to the legacy of the late Kurt Cobain. This historic collaboration between two of Seattle’s most iconic bands promises to deliver raw emotion, musical nostalgia, and unforgettable performances across the globe.
The tour, titled “Come As You Were”, will be the first time surviving members of Nirvana officially reunite for a full-scale tour since Kurt Cobain’s passing in 1994. While previous reunions have occurred on rare occasions, this marks a committed effort to celebrate Kurt’s life and music alongside longtime friends and fellow grunge legends, Alice in Chains.
With Dave Grohl on drums and Krist Novoselic on bass, the spirit of Nirvana will return to the stage, this time with a rotating lineup of guest vocalists. Among the rumored names are Eddie Vedder, St. Vincent, and even Frances Bean Cobain, who has quietly worked on her vocal artistry over the years. While no permanent replacement for Kurt will ever be declared, the band aims to honor his essence through respectful reinterpretation.
Alice in Chains, who have carried their legacy forward despite the tragic loss of frontman Layne Staley, will co-headline each night, bringing their signature sound and brooding intensity to the tour. Current vocalist William DuVall will be at the forefront, and the band has hinted at special collaborations on Nirvana tracks during joint encore sets.
The “Come As You Were” tour will span five continents and kick off in Seattle on July 5, 2025—exactly 30 years after the last time Nirvana played together in their hometown. The North American leg includes iconic venues like Madison Square Garden in New York, The Forum in Los Angeles, and Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
European dates will follow in August, featuring stops in London, Paris, Berlin, and Oslo. From there, the tour heads to South America in September with shows in Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, and Santiago. October will see the bands performing in Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, before wrapping up with a massive finale in Sao Paulo on November 22.
Fans can expect a mix of classics like “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “Man in the Box,” “Heart-Shaped Box,” and “Rooster,” as well as some deeper cuts and surprise acoustic sets. A special segment of each concert will be devoted to honoring Kurt Cobain through visuals, rare interviews, and archival footage curated by his family and bandmates.
In a heartfelt joint statement, Grohl and Novoselic said, “This tour is not just about looking back—it’s about paying tribute to Kurt in a way that celebrates his art and the community he built. He changed our lives. This is for him, and for everyone he touched through his music.”
Limited edition merch, vinyl reissues, and a tour-exclusive documentary are also in the works. A portion of proceeds from ticket sales will go toward mental health awareness and addiction recovery programs—causes both bands have openly supported over the years.
Tickets go on sale April 15, with pre-sales available for fan club members starting April 12. With demand expected to be enormous, fans are encouraged to act quickly. VIP packages include soundcheck access, exclusive memorabilia, and signed instruments.
As the grunge generation prepares to say goodbye on stage one final time, “Come As You Were” stands as more than a tour—it’s a tribute, a catharsis, and a communal love letter to the enduring spirit of Kurt Cobain and the music that defined an era.
