Red Sox ‘Very Interested’ in Acquiring Juan Soto, According to David Ortiz.
The Boston Red Sox are making a serious push for one of the biggest stars in this offseason’s free-agent class. As speculation grows about the team’s willingness to spend more aggressively than in previous years, a Red Sox legend with close ties to ownership has confirmed their strong interest.
“One thing I can tell you, the Red Sox are very interested in getting (Juan) Soto,” David Ortiz shared with Joey Copponi and Scott Neville on Newsweek Sports’ ITM Podcast. “The way I’ve seen the Red Sox approach him — the only time I’ve seen them approach someone like that is when they really want him. I’m glad they’re moving forward with signing players and trying to change the direction of our organization.”
Ortiz has actively participated in the recruitment effort, emphasizing the Boston experience to Soto. His involvement underscores the team’s serious intent to land the superstar. Without genuine interest and the financial commitment needed to secure Soto, Ortiz’s role in the process would hold little weight.
Red Sox legend David Ortiz firmly believes that Juan Soto is the cornerstone player the team’s ownership has been waiting for, a sentiment he has expressed for years. During an interview on Friday, Ortiz’s tone was notably optimistic.
“Who wouldn’t like to have a player like Juan Soto in their corner? And what gives me a lot of hope is that the Red Sox are trying to get him,” Ortiz said on the ITM Podcast. “That builds up your confidence level. If it were up to me, of course, I would do whatever it takes to make that happen, but you know it takes more than that.”
