NBC Announces New ‘Grimm’ Spinoff Series Focused on Next Generation of Wesen Hunters
LOS ANGELES — Fans of the cult-favorite supernatural drama Grimm have reason to celebrate, as NBC has officially greenlit a brand-new sequel series titled “Grimm: Legacy”, centered on the next generation of Wesen hunters. The announcement, made at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, confirms long-running rumors of a revival following the show’s emotional finale in 2017.
The new series will follow the lives of Kelly Burkhardt — the now-grown son of original protagonist Nick Burkhardt — Diana Schade-Renard, the powerful daughter of Adalind and Captain Sean Renard, and the triplets of Monroe and Rosalee, who have inherited a fascinating mix of Blutbad and Fuchsbau traits. Set twenty years after the events of the original series, Grimm: Legacy promises a darker, more global hunt for ancient Wesen secrets, and threats that stretch far beyond Portland.
NBCUniversal Chairman Lisa Katz described the spinoff as a “bold reimagining rooted in legacy, but with eyes on the future.” She added, “These aren’t just kids living in the shadow of their parents — they’re uniquely powerful, uniquely conflicted, and uniquely Grimm.”
Returning to executive produce is David Greenwalt, co-creator of the original Grimm, along with writer-producer Melissa Glenn (Marvel’s The Punisher, Zoo), who is set to serve as showrunner. Talks are also underway for guest appearances from original cast members including David Giuntoli (Nick), Bitsie Tulloch (Juliette/Eve), and Silas Weir Mitchell (Monroe) in recurring mentorship or flashback roles.
According to early plot details, Kelly Burkhardt has taken up his father’s mantle but is haunted by visions connected to the Staff of Zerstörer. Diana, now in her mid-20s, is a formidable hexenbiest whose powers have matured far beyond anything previously seen — and her inner conflict between light and dark will drive much of the show’s central arc.
Meanwhile, Monroe and Rosalee’s triplets — two boys and a girl, each with differing combinations of their parents’ Wesen traits — have grown up in secrecy, trained in ancient lore but unfamiliar with real-world danger. When a new faction known as The Black Claw Ascendancy emerges in Europe, the five young leads are drawn together in an uneasy alliance to prevent the rise of a new Wesen regime.
Showrunner Melissa Glenn teased, “The triplets have never really lived in the field. This is their awakening. We’re going to explore what it means to be a hybrid in a world still afraid of difference. There’s a lot of mythology we never got to unpack in the original run — and now we’re cracking that wide open.”
Though no official casting has been announced, production is slated to begin in fall 2025 in Vancouver, with NBC eyeing a late 2026 premiere on Peacock and prime-time television. Multiple sources say several breakout stars from genre television and streaming are already attached, with casting for Kelly and Diana being kept tightly under wraps.
Fans have already taken to social media with excitement, with hashtags like #GrimmLegacy and #NextGenWesen trending on X and Instagram. Many are especially thrilled at the prospect of finally seeing Diana’s full power explored, after years of teasing her destiny in the original series.
NBC’s teaser artwork — released during the panel — shows five silhouetted figures standing before a forested cliff, a glowing staff embedded in rock behind them. The tagline reads: “The bloodline continues. So does the hunt.”
As anticipation builds, one thing is certain: the Wesen world is far from dormant. With a fresh generation of heroes, enemies, and hybrid powers, Grimm: Legacy is shaping up to be a return fans won’t want to miss.
