Netflix Announces Biopic on Motorcycle Legend Giacomo Agostini, Set for 2026 Release
Netflix is bringing the life of a true racing icon to the screen. The streaming giant has officially announced the production of a biopic centered on Giacomo Agostini, widely regarded as the greatest motorcycle racer of all time. Set for release in 2026, the film promises to explore the triumphs, rivalries, and personal journey of the Italian legend who won a record 15 world championships and 123 Grand Prix races.
The project, titled simply Ago, is being developed in collaboration with MV Agusta—the same motorcycle brand that Agostini rode to international dominance throughout the 1960s and ’70s. The timing couldn’t be more fitting, as MV Agusta celebrates its 80th anniversary, honoring a shared legacy that shaped the golden era of motorcycle racing.
Netflix previewed the film in a private screening event held at MV Agusta’s headquarters in Varese, Italy, on March 6, 2025. Agostini himself was present, alongside industry veterans, sports journalists, and die-hard fans. The early reception was overwhelmingly positive, praising the film’s blend of high-speed action and deep emotional storytelling.
Before its global release on Netflix, Ago enjoyed a limited theatrical run in Italian cinemas from March 10 to 12. The short release gave fans a rare opportunity to experience the film on the big screen and relive the adrenaline-fueled moments that defined Agostini’s career.
Unlike standard sports documentaries, Ago is a cinematic deep dive into the man behind the machine. It combines never-before-seen archival footage with new interviews, including insights from Agostini himself and fellow racing legends. The film traces his humble beginnings in Brescia, his fierce rivalries with names like Mike Hailwood and Kenny Roberts, and his fight for safety reforms in a dangerous sport.
The biopic also goes beyond the track. It explores how Agostini became a national hero and international icon, transforming from a fearless competitor into a symbol of elegance, discipline, and innovation. His charisma and professionalism helped elevate motorcycle racing from a niche pursuit to a global spectacle.
Netflix has not yet announced an exact release date, but the streaming debut is expected sometime in mid-2026. With the success of other sports titles like Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Netflix appears to be doubling down on stories that blend athletic excellence with human drama—and Ago seems like a perfect fit.
For fans of motorsports, history, or inspiring life stories, Ago is one to watch. As Netflix gears up for the full release, expect trailers, behind-the-scenes content, and cast announcements to start rolling out in the coming months. Giacomo Agostini’s story is finally coming to the screen—and it’s racing toward global audiences at full speed.
