Netflix Officially Announces Carole King Biopic, Premiering 2026

Big news for music lovers and Netflix binge-watchers alike: the streaming giant has officially confirmed a Carole King biopic is in the works—and it’s set to premiere globally in 2026! Titled Beautiful, after the beloved Broadway musical, the film will chronicle the incredible life and career of one of the most influential singer-songwriters in history.

Netflix made the announcement this week, setting the internet abuzz with excitement. The film promises to dive deep into Carole King’s journey from a teenage songwriting prodigy in Brooklyn to the groundbreaking solo artist who gifted the world hits like Tapestry and You’ve Got a Friend.

Helming the project is acclaimed director Lisa Cholodenko, whose work on The Kids Are All Right earned her an Oscar nomination. She’s teamed up with screenwriter Stuart Blumberg, and producers Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman—names that guarantee a high-caliber production with the emotional depth King’s story deserves.

Of course, fans have been wondering who will portray Carole on screen. Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People) was originally attached to star but exited the project in 2024. Producers are now in the process of finding a new lead actress capable of capturing both the vulnerability and fierce spirit that define King’s life and music.

One thing is certain: Carole King herself is fully behind this film. She’s given her blessing to the team and remains involved in shaping the project. Her endorsement suggests we’re in for an authentic portrayal of her remarkable life, both the triumphs and the heartbreaks.

The biopic will cover King’s early days writing chart-topping songs with then-husband Gerry Goffin in the Brill Building, her struggles balancing family life with a demanding career, and her transformation into a solo artist who broke industry molds with her deeply personal music.

Fans can also look forward to a soundtrack stacked with timeless classics. Songs like “Natural Woman,” “It’s Too Late,” “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” and many more are expected to feature in the film, serving as both nostalgia and emotional anchors for key scenes.

This announcement also signals Netflix’s continued push into prestige biopics after the success of projects like Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and The Irishman. By bringing Beautiful to its platform, Netflix ensures Carole King’s story will reach a global audience—introducing a new generation to her music and legacy.

Production has already experienced some delays, thanks to industry-wide strikes and recasting efforts. But with the pieces now coming together and Netflix’s massive resources, momentum has picked up again. Cameras are expected to roll in 2025, with plenty of updates likely along the way.

What makes Carole King’s story so compelling is not just her music, but her resilience. At a time when the industry rarely welcomed women in positions of power, King broke through to become one of the most successful female songwriters and solo artists of all time. Her story is a testament to creative courage and the power of vulnerability.

The upcoming film promises to explore themes of love, heartbreak, motherhood, self-discovery, and ultimately, triumph—universal experiences that will resonate far beyond longtime Carole King fans. And with the Broadway musical’s success, there’s little doubt the film will strike a chord with audiences.

As excitement builds, keep an eye out for casting news, behind-the-scenes looks, and trailers. One thing’s for sure: when Beautiful hits Netflix in 2026, we’ll all be singing along. After all, who doesn’t need a little more Carole King in their lives?
